Letter to the Editor:Video gaming revenue helps local government

Illinois’ video gaming industry has always enjoyed a close link to local communities and the small businesses and fraternal and veterans’ organizations that form the bedrock of cities, towns and neighborhoods.

That’s why I am proud that the members of the Illinois Gaming Machine Operators Association (IGMOA) came forward to support communities and residents who suffered devastating losses during recent tornadoes in northern Illinois.

The IGMOA contributed $20,000 to the Illinois Tornado Relief Effort to aid the hardest-hit communities. We were pleased to join the McCormick Foundation, Gov. Rauner and others in helping the foundation exceed the $500,000 goal it set for a 50 percent match.

The IGMOA is the professional association of companies who supply and operate video gaming machines in licensed establishments across Illinois. Proceeds from video gaming have poured more than $355 million in tax revenue to the state and local governments since the first games went online in 2012 — money to fund infrastructure projects across the state and help local government hire employees, buy vehicles and provide much-needed services.

We are proud of our partner communities and businesses and pledge to continue to work hand in hand to make Illinois an even better place to live and work.
